Announcement Date: April 13, 2017
To commemorate the 350th Birth Anniversary of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Sahib Ji (1667-2017). The Anandpur Sahib Heritage Foundation founded by Sodhi Vikram Singh of Anandpur Sahib organized the 3rd edition of ‘Khalsa Games’ on 12 and 13th April 2017. This has become an annual sporting festival to celebrate the birth of the Khalsa. It was on Baisakhi 1699, that Sri Guru Gobind Singh Sahib Ji had declared the formation of the Khalsa Panth (the pure), an army of soldier saints dedicated to combat tyranny & oppression against humanity in any form. The Foundation aims to further strengthen the sporting traditions of the Punjab by encouraging participation in the ‘Khalsa Games’. This is another step in the Foundations objective to strive for a ‘drug free Punjab’ and to encourage the youth of the Punjab to reestablish Punjab as the premier sporting state in the union of India. This year inter district competitions were held in traditional sports like Girls and Men’s Kabbadi, Tug of War, Martial Arts (Gatka) and individual shows of strength and courage. The organizers also strive to constantly introduce new sporting events to create healthy sporting competitions during the festival of Baisakhi for which Sri Anandpur Sahib is renowned around the world.
